At present, the chip market consumer chip demand is greatly reduced, the price of an avalanche crash, seems to have been unable to sell. And the demand for automotive chips is still strong, has not been supply, automotive MCU, IGBT is a core difficult to find, leading to the production of many global car companies.
So if there's no shortage of consumer chips, why aren't there any shortages of automotive chips?
Recently, DBJ Research, a Japanese investment bank, released an analysis report titled "The Main Reasons for the shortage of automotive semiconductors and Measures to stabilize procurement", which analyzed the crisis of the automotive industry.
1. Trade friction between China and the United States
The report pointed out that trade friction between China and the United States is one of the important reasons for the shortage of automotive chips.
Since Trump started the trade war between China and the United States, the US has never stopped its sanctions and blockades against China, and they have even become increasingly fierce. Since President Biden took office, China's high-tech sanctions have become even more severe, with the chip being the hardest hit. The United States is willing to strike at China's chip industry and curb the development of China's high-end chips even at the cost of 100 to the enemy and 1,000 to itself.
In December 2020, the US imposed export restrictions on semiconductor manufacturing equipment of 10nm and below to China, forcing end users to re-examine their supply chains. There are reports that 28/40/65nm products contracted by Chinese factories have been transferred to Taiwan and the US after the introduction of the control measures, resulting in tight operating rates at local factories.
Now, the US has further expanded its restrictions to ban the export of semiconductor manufacturing equipment of 14nm and below to China.
